SUBJECT:
Perry Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-440, License No. NPF-58 Perry Nuclear Power Plant PO. Box 97 10 Center Road Perry, Ohio 44081 440-280-5382 10 CFR 50.54(f)
Resumption of Actions Related to Beyond-Desian-Basis External Events Floodina Actions (EPID L-2016-JLD-0007)
By letter dated December 7, 2018 (Accession No. ML18341A046), as supplemented by letter dated March 20, 2019 (Accession No. ML19080A005), FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) requested deferral of actions related to beyond-design-basis external events (BDBEE) flooding actions for Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP).
The letter requested a deferral of the flooding focused evaluation (FE) and other remaining actions associated with the flooding hazard reevaluation activities in anticipation of the planned permanent shutdown of PNPP by May 31, 2021. By letter dated May 16, 2019 (Accession No. ML190938133), the NRC found the request acceptable and considered the actions deferred.
By letter dated July 26, 2019 (Accession No. ML19207A097), the certification of permanent cessation of power operations for PNPP was withdrawn. With the continued operation of PNPP, FENOC has resumed flooding hazard reevaluation activities and expects to submit the PNPP FE for flooding by November 22, 2019 to meet the evaluation request documented in NRC letter dated September 1, 2015, "Coordination of Requests for Information Regarding Flooding Hazard Reevaluations and Mitigating Strategies for Beyond-Design-Basis External Events" (Accession No. ML15174A257).
