l S.

Independent Inspection Effort The inspector made one surveillance tour during which the status of project work was noted, and construction activities were inspected on nuclear safety related structures, systems and facilities.

'

The inspections included:

a.

Pipe support welding in the Unit A-1 auxiliary building at the -20'

level.

Pipe support welds identified Al-163-AP2-J, Al-163-AP2-L and Al-163-AP2-H were observed in progress and to completion. Work package A1A-SSP-H1-C007 was applicable and reviewed for inclusion of applicable procedure and drawing requirements. Weld procedure specification (WPS)

SM11-B-3A was utilized, welder's symbol IAER was applied per procedure t

2 requirements and welder's qualifications to the WPS was verified by the inspector.

b.

High density fuel rack support installation welding was observed in the unit A-1 fuel building.

Work package C-137M-M5 was reviewed for inclusion of applicable specifications and drawing requirements. The applicable weld procedure specification was SM-P-5, Revision 1, C.- F.

Braun, Specification 300-06, and drawing S-480A, Revision 5, was reviewed for weld configuration and dimensional characteristics.

Welder identified as BAAW was observed in progress, welding electrical characteristics and welder qualification were verified by the inspector, c.

Open Site Quality Control Items:

The inspector reviewed the licensee's Nonconformance Reports (NCRs),

the significant Quality Control Inspection Reports (QCIRs) and QA Unit audit findings for pertinence to the inspection program and for adequacy of corrective action.

In the areas inspected no violations or deviations were identified.

Containment Structural Steel Welding (Unit A-1)

The inspector observed welding activites in progress to the containment vessel, and within the containment vessel to drywell wall embedment frames.

Areas observed included containment shell, section #1021, welder identified BANJ, weld procedure specifications (WPS) SM-11-B9, Revision 4; containment shell stiffener plate #F0109-A, weld #AICS02344, welders' identification BAFN and BALE, WPS-SM1189, Revision 4. Drywell Wall Embedment Frames:

Frame Weld #

427B IAEX SMUIB Revision 6

204 IAFR SMUIB Revision 6

179B IAIV SMUIB Revision 6

18A IABG SMUIB Revision 6 The above welds were verified in progress to be in compliance to:

applicable code and procedural requirements; weld identification / location, use of specified and approved weld procedures and weld material; welders perfonning the welds are currently qualified for position and thickness being welded; weld defects removal and repair are accomplished per code and specification requirements; welding electrical characteristics, preheat and interpass temperature; and weld sequence and joint restraint were as specified.

In addition the inspector observed nondestructive examination (MT) of defect removal areas and completed welds for the drywell wall embedment frames.

Within the areas inspected no violations or deviations were observed.
