UPDATED INSPECTION PLAN FOR DIABLO CANYON POWER PLANT (REPORT 05000275/2025005 AND 05000323/2025005)
Dear Paula A. Gerfen:
The enclosed inspection plan lists the inspections scheduled through June 30, 2027, for Diablo Canyon Power Plant, Units 1 and 2. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) provides the inspection plan to allow for the resolution of any scheduling conflicts and personnel availability issues. Routine inspections performed by resident inspectors are not included in the inspection plan. The inspections listed during the last twelve months of the inspection plan are tentative and may be revised. As discussed in SECY-25-0045, Recommendations for Revising the Reactor Oversight Process, dated June 5, 2025, (ML25042A278), the NRC determined that a broad, comprehensive review of the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) is necessary to reflect improvements in industry performance and advancements in technology. The outcome of the comprehensive review and recommendations to revise the ROP baseline inspection program, when approved by the NRC Commission, will require a revision to this inspection plan. The NRC will contact you as soon as possible to discuss any revisions after the new baseline inspection program is implemented. The NRC will perform Inspection Procedure 60859, Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) License Renewal Inspection, at your facility as indicated in the enclosed inspection plan, because your ISFSI has entered its Period of Extended Operation.
This letter and its enclosure will be made available for public inspection and copying at ADAMS Public Documents l NRC.gov and at the NRC Public Document Room in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations 2.390, Public Inspections, Exemptions, Requests for Withholding.
