Reference:
Inspection No. 50-247/83-05 On March 8,1983, we met with members of your staff for the purpose of discus-sing quality assurance audits for transport packages as required by your NRC approved quality assurance program. The meeting was held in our Region I Office. The meeting was concluded by our agreeing to review additional audit reports that would be provided by your staff, and we agreed to leave the issue unresolved.
On or about April 25, 1983, the. documents were received in the region. We have determined that the records did not support the contention that appropriate criteria of the quality assurance program for transport packages were addressed during these audits. To clarify the regulatory requirements in this area, we have requested the appropriate division in the NRC to develop a Branch Techni-cal Position for packages similar to that which presently exists for fire protection.
