effect on the Humboldt Bay nuclear power plant of an earthquake

reported to have occurred in the Eureka area.

Descriptien of Particular Event or Circumstant e The University of California Seicconraphic Station at Berkeley recorded an earthquake in northern C,11fornia at 4:50 a.m. on March 12, 1973 with the epicenter reported to have been 25, miles '
south of Eureka.
The quake registered 4.5 on the Richter scale.
According to the licensee, the reactor was operating at full load
,
and operations were not affected. The licensee stated that one or more of the three seismic sensorn (200 f t from plant, top of,
'
Refueling Euilding, and below ground level in caisson) triggered the recording device.
The recorder tape has been sent to Teledyne Corporation in los Angeles for analynis.
The licensee classified the earthquake as " moderate".
