WOLF CREEK- 'NUCLEAR OPERATING CORPORATION Terry J Garrett Vice President, Engineering May 4, 2005 ET 05-0004 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

Docket No. 50-482: Steam Generator Tube Plugging Report Gentlemen:

This letter provides information regarding the number of tubes plugged in each steam generator, as required by Wolf Creek Generating Station Technical Specification 5.6.10, "Steam Generator Tube Inspection Report." Technical Specification 5.6.10 requires, in part, that the number of tubes plugged in each steam generator be reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission within 15 days following the completion of each inservice inspection of the steam generator tubes.

The inservice inspection of Steam Generators "B" and "C" was completed on April 22, 2005.

The inspection resulted in the mechanical plugging'of 7 tubes in Steam Generator "B" and 1 tube in Steam Generator "C." Four of the tubes plugged in Steam Generator "B" were plugged due to indication'of free span wear below the baffle. All of the other tubes plugged in Steam Generators "B" and "C" were due to indication of anti-vibration bar wear found during the inservice inspection. Steam Generators "A" and UD" were not inspected during the inservice inspection.

Including the tubes plugged during this inservice inspection, the total number of tubes plugged in each steam generator to date are as follows:

Steam Generator "A" - 29*

Steam Generator "B" 35 Steam Generator 'C" 20 Steam Generator"DW 97

  • An additional 3 plugs are installed in Steam Generator"A" cold leg only, due to tube sheet drilling mistakes during manufacturing. No tubes are installed in those locations.
