| Title | Temporary Loss of Power to the Emergency Condenser |
| Event Description | On 7/28/2016 at 2357 EDT, Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station Unit 1 experienced a fault in the in-service 11 RPS UPS [Reactor Protective System Ultimate Power Supply], resulting in an isolation of both emergency condensers. Emergency condenser 12 was returned to standby on 7/29/2016 at 0041 EDT and emergency condenser 11 was returned to standby on 7/29/2016 at 0045 EDT.
This 8-hour non-emergency report is being made based upon requirements of 10CFR50.72(b)(3)(v)(B) which states, 'Licensee shall notify the NRC of any event or condition that at the time of discovery could have prevented the fulfillment of the safety function of structures or systems that are needed to: (B) Remove residual heat.' The state of New York and the NRC Senior Resident Inspector were informed. |
