| Event Description | On October 5 at 1455 James A. Fitzpatrick was notified by Oswego County Emergency Management that the tone alert radio system had exceed 1 hour1.157407e-5 days <br />2.777778e-4 hours <br />1.653439e-6 weeks <br />3.805e-7 months <br /> out of service at 1353
This impacts the ability to readily notify a portion of the Emergency Planning Zone Population for the Nine Mile Point and James A. Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plants. The failure was caused by the unplanned loss of required telephone lines. The line between the transmitter and the national weather service. Verizon is currently working on repairs that should be completed by 1700. The loss of the tone alert radio constitutes a significant loss of emergency off-site communications ability. Compensatory actions have been verified to be available should the prompt notification system be needed. This consists of utilizing local law enforcement personnel for 'Route Alerting' of affected areas." The state will be notified. The NRC Resident Inspector was notified of this event by the licensee. |
