Dear Commissioners and Staff:

In November 2009, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) submitted an application (hereafter "License Renewal Application" or "LRA") to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the renewal of the operating licenses for Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) Units 1 and 2 (Reference 1). In June 2016, PG&E requested that the NRC suspend its review of the DCPP LRA (Reference 2).

PG&E hereby requests to withdraw the LRA for DCPP Units 1 and 2, and all associated correspondence and commitments. The decision to withdraw the LRA is based on the determination that continued baseload operation of the two DCPP units beyond their currently approved operating periods is not necessary to meet California's projected energy demand requirements. This resource planning decision was approved by the California Public Utilities Commission in Decision 18-01-022, dated January 11, 2018.

PG&E makes no new or revised regulatory commitments (as defined by NEI 99-04) in this letter.

If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Mr. Hossein Hamzehee, Manager of Nuclear Regulatory Services, at 805-545-4720.
