Dear Sir or Madam:
In the referenced letter, Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy) requested relaxation from Section IV.C(1)(b) of NRC Order EA-03-009 for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2 (ANO-2) via Relaxation Request #3 pertaining to the In-Core Instrumentation (ICI) nozzles located in the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) head. The request proposed a three-step alternative based on ultrasonic testing, stress analysis, and augmented inspections utilizing a sampling plan.
-In a telephone-conference hekldon-September9, 2003,-representatives of the NRC staff and Entergy discussed the use of a sampling plan to determine the number of nozzles to be inspected. As a result of that discussion and by this letter, Entergy amends Relaxation Request #3. Specifically, Entergy will not utilize a sampling plan and proposes to perform augmented inspections of the eight (8) ICI nozzles as described in the request.
This letter contains no new commitments.
