Dear Sir or Madam:

Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.82(a)(1)(i), Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy) hereby certifies to the NRC that it has decided to permanently cease power operations at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station (VY). VY will continue to operate until the end of the current operating cycle, which is expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2014. A more specific date cannot be provided at this time in order to allow for fuel coastdown variables. Entergy will submit a supplement to this letter certifying the date on which operations have ceased, or will cease, in accordance with 10CFR50.82(a)(1)(i) and 1 OCFR50.4(b)(8).
