Ladies and Gentlemen:

By letter dated December 14, 2016 (i.e., Reference 1), Duke Energy Progress, LLC (Duke Energy), submitted for NRC review and approval, the 10 CFR 50.55a alternative requests needed to support implementation of the next 10-year inservice testing (IST) program. On February 16, 2017, a telephone conference was held between the NRC and Duke Energy to discuss 1 O CFR 50.55a Alternative Requests VRR-02 and VRR-04. Based on those discussions and subsequent reviews, Duke Energy is withdrawing 10 CFR 50.55a Alternative Request VRR-02 because the issue can be addressed as a Cold Shutdown Justification in the lnservice Inspection Program. In addition, Duke Energy is withdrawing 10 CFR 50.55a Alternative Request VRR-04 because it is no longer needed due to NRC approval of 10 CFR 50.55a Alternative Request VRR-06 (i.e., Reference 2). Proposed 10 CFR 50.55a Alternative Requests VRR-01 and VRR-03 are not affected by this withdraw!.

This letter contains no regulatory commitments.
