On June 26,1996, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued Generic Letter 96-04 entitled "Boraflex Degradation in Spent Fuel Pool Storage Racks." The generic letter requested that all licensees that use Boraflex in their spent fuel storage racks submit a written response within 120 days of the date of the generic letter. Although this generic letter was issued to alllicensees of operating nuclear power reactors, only thosa licensees that use Boraflex are required to respond.

Carolina Power & Light Company has reviewed the spent fuel storage racks in use at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Units 1 and 2 in response to Generic Letter 96-04. The Brunswick Plant spent fuel storage racks do nct use Boraflex. Therefore, the actions specified in Generic Letter 96-04 are not applicab'e and no turiher response to the generic letter is required.
