BOSTON EDISON COMPANY PILGRIM NUCLEAR POWER STATION DOCKET NO. 50-293 Operational Summaary for October 1983 The month commenced with the unit at 35% power in order to facilitate a special HPCI surveillance test. After successful completion of tha. test the unit was returned to 94% power (maximum achievable due to fuel depletion) until October 7 when the unit was shut down as planned to allow photographing of.the drywell and performance of planned maintenance. While shutting down, the turbine bypass valves opened further than required due to a problem with electronic pressure regulat3 n system and the reactor scrammed on low pressure

- ( 880 psig while in the re- mode).

Upon completion of planned outage activities the unit was returned to service on October 10, 1983. Maximum power attainable was maintained until the end of the month at which time the unit was at 87% power.
