SUBJECT:
Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-368 License No. NPF-6 Additional Relief Requests for ANO-2 First 10-Year Inservice Inspection Gentlemen:
As discussed between Mr. Chet Poslusny and Mr. Don Lomax on September 22, 1989, during the upcoming ANO-2 refueling outage, outage 2R7, scheduled to begin on September 25, 1989, Arkansas Power & Light Company will be conducting Inservice Inspection activities in accordance with the ASME Section XI Code.
For ANO-2, the current applicable ASME Section XI Code, the 1974 Edition through Summer 1975 Addenda, section IWA-5210 requires for system and component hydrostatic tests that test pressure and temperature be maintained for e.t least four hours prior to the performance of examinations for leakage.
Later Code editions, including the ANO-1 current app'licable Code (i.e., the l
1980 Edition, Winter 1981 Addenda) and the 1986 Edition which will be the l
upgraded Code of record for AND-2 beginning March 1990, provide for a holding time of four hours for insulated systems and ten minutes for noninsulated systems for system hydrostatic tests [ reference section IWA-5213(d)].
Approximately 37 hydrostatic tests will be performed during 2R7.
A listing of the systems on which hydrostatic tests will be performed is attached.
For the systems or portions of the systems to be tested which may be currently uninsulated or which could become uninsulated during the course of the outage, AP&L requests relief from the current Code requirements such that tne later guidance of the Code could be applied and a ten minute holding time prior to examination for leakage be utilized.
