On August 7, 2002, the NRC issued a letter from Mr. John A. Zwolinski to Mr. C. S.

Hinnant, "Storage of Classified Information - Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Units 1 & 2; Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1; H. B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit 2,"

requesting cooperation with the handling of certain classified information. The letter requested that a location inside the protected area be provided to permit storage and facilitate review of classified information. Three options for assisting the NRC were discussed and a request was made to respond within 10 days of receipt of the letter. The letter was received on August 12, 2002.

Carolina Power & Light (CP&L) Company will accept the third option listed in the letter for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant. CP&L will install a small two-drawer NRC security container inside the Secondary Alarm Station (SAS), which is inside the protected area. CP&L will not move the security container from the SAS or attempt to gain access to the container without permission of the NRC. If the container is found unlocked and unattended, CP&L will immediately notify the resident inspector or the NRC Headquarters Operations Officer and guard the contents of the container until NRC personnel are present.
