REVIEW OF STEAM GENERATOR INSPECTION DATA FOR THE PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNIT 2
Dear Mr.-Levine:
In September 1997, Arizona Public Service Company (APS) completed steam generator (SG) tube eddy current (EC) inspections in the Palo Verde Unit 2 steam generators during the end-of-cycle 7 refueling outage.
During cycle 7
operation, APS tracked a small primary to secondary leak in the f21 SG in the 1-2 gpd range with a spike up to about 4 gpd just prior to shutdown.
APS erformed a secondary side pressurization test and identified a positive eakage source at tube R1C56.
The indication 'had been identified during the previous outage with a plus point probe, dispositioned as due to geometry
("GEO") and thus was not repaired.
In an effort to better understand the inspection results.
the NRC would like to review the eddy current data associated with the low row U-bends characterized as cracklike during the September 1997 refueling outage.
For the September 1997 inspections of the low row U-bend tube indications characterized as cracklike, provide an optical disk containing the plus point and pancake coil eddy current data and associated calibration setups in the Eddynet format.
In addition, please provide for these same tubes, the previous outage inspection data and the latest inspection data for similarly dispositioned tubes currently in service in Units 1 and 3 (i.e., tubes in service with "GEO" calls).
