EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS RESULTING IN A PLANT SHUTDOWN IN EXCESS The plant was shut down at 6:00 a.m. on October 31, 1980, due to high vibrations on the No. 3 bearing on the low pressure stage of the main turbine.
The vibrations had gradually increased up to 9 mils at which point the decision was made to shut the unit down for rebalancing of the turbine.
The licensee estimates that the rebalancing efforts will be completed and the unit restarted within 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br />.
Neither the licensee nor Region III intend to issue a prEss release on this matter.
The State of Michigan will be notified.
Region III received notification of this matter from the Headquarters Duty Officer on October 31, 1980.
