50-416/417 File 0260/15526 PRD-79/21, Interim Report #3 Failure to Provide Qualified Instrumentation in Safety Related Systems AECM-80/129 On December 5, 1979, Mississippi Power & Light Company notified Mr. J. K. Rausch of your office of a potentially reportable deficiency at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station construction site. The deficiency concerns General Electric's failure to provide seismically and environmentally qualified instruments for use in nuclear safety systems in the Balance af Plant (BOP) Power Generation Control Complex (PCCC).

We have determined that this matter constitutes a reportable condition under 10CFR50.55(e).

Furthermore, we have concluded that this condition is also required to be reported under 10CFR21. This letter to you, with Interim Report Number 3 attachment and previous submittals constitutes our required reporting of this matter under both 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR21 for the information which is now availabic.

of the reportability under 10CFR21 on June 12, 1980, and confirmed 10CFR50.55(e) time requirements apply.

A final report with corrective actions will be submitted to you by January 10, 1981.
