North Anna Power Station, Unit #1 Attachment: Page 1 of 1 Docket No. 50-338 Attachment to LER 80-073/03L-0

Description of Event

The operability of one of the Low Head Safety Injection systems was compromised when a valve (MOV-1863A) in the system was de-energized in order--to rework a weld on a leaking drain valve (1-SI-171). The applic-able T.S. is 3.5.2 and the event is reportable pursuant to T.S. 6.9.1.9.b.

Probable Consequences of Event The consequence of de-energizing MOV-1863A is e blocked flow path from LHSI pump "A" to the charging pumps. Since t?.e system was restored to its normal operating condition in less than 20 hours2.314815e-4 days
0.00556 hours
3.306878e-5 weeks
7.61e-6 months
, well within the 72 hour8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
time limit denoted in T.S. 3.5.2, the health and safety of the general.public were not affected.

Cause of Event-The valve (MOV-1863A) had to be de-energized in order to rework a weld on a leaking drain valve (1-SI-171).

Immediate Corrective Action

The defective weld was ground out and avorked by procedure (MMP-CP-1).

The new weld was inspected by Quality C.ntrol er,gineers and tested satisfactorily.

1 Scheduled Corrective Action 1

No scheduled corrective action is required.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence l

No further actions are required.

Generic Implications There are no generic implications.
