Dear Congressman Panetta:

In my letter of October 1,1980, forwarding information about sea disposal of radioactive waste, I indicated that we would keep you advised if further infonnation developed. Enclosed is a letter from Mr. Richard E.

Cunningham of our staff to Mr. George E. Earle, IV, which suninarizes information about a possible sea disposal of radioactive material that tock place in 1947. The Environmental Protection Agency has this informa-tion for appropriate follow-up action.

A search of otfr records to date has not uncovered any information pertain-ing to Mr. Earle's flights nor any other classified armed service flights for the purpose of disposing radioactive materials at sea.

If you have questions about this matter, please let us know.
