Dear Mrs. Beemon:
I am responding to your petition on behalf of Concerned Citizens for the Charlevoix Area dated November 11, 1989, and amended on March 15, 1990, requesting that the Comission take action to require the Consumers Power Company to meet all current NRC design and safety criteria for the Big Rock Point Plant and to prohibit continued operations until these objectives are met.

By letter dated January 24, 1990, I informed you that your petition had been referred to rny Office for consideration pursuant to 10 CFR 52.206 and that a formal decision would be issued within a reasonable time.
Your request has been considered under the provisions of 10 CFR 62.206 of the Comission's regulations and, for reasons set forth in the enclosed " Director's Decision Under 10 CFR 62.206," I have denied your petition.
A copy of the Decision is being filed with the Secretary for the Commission's review in accordance with 10 CFR 62.206(c). As provided in 10 CFR $2.206(c),
the Decision will constitute the final action of the Commission 25 days after the date of issuance of the Decision unless the Commission, on its own motion, institutes a review of the decision within that time.
A copy of the Notice of Issuance of the Director's Decision, which is being filed with the Office of the Federal Register for publication, is also enclosed.
