DPR-71 & DPR-62 SECOND INSERVICE INSPECTION INTERVAL EXTENSION Gentlemen:
The purpose of this letter is notify the NRC Staff of CP&L's intent to extend the Second 10-Year Inservice Inspection Interval for both Brunswick Unit 1 and Unit 2 from July 10, 1996 to July 10,1997.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)Section XI, IWA-2400(c), states in part that, "... for power units that are out of service continuously for 6 months or more, the inspection interval during which the outage occurred may be extended for a period equivalent to the outage.." Both Brunswick Units 1 and 2 were shutdown on April 21, 1992 and Unit 2 was restarted on April 29,1993, and Unit 1 was restarted on January 31,1994. Therefore, the Second 10-Year Inservice inspection interval will be extended by one year to coincide with plant outages due to both units being shutdown for a period of time greater than one year.
In addition, to coincide with the above discussed interval extension, the second and third inspection periods of the Second inservice Inspection Interval have been changed. The dates for the second inspection period are from November 11,1989 to March 10,1994, and the dates for the third inspection period are from March 11,1994 to July 10,1997.
