APPLICANT'S REQUEST TO EXTEND TIME FOR FILING STATUS REPORT In its Memorandum and Order of April 12, 1983, the Licensing Board, after taking into account (1) the Staff's then anticipated schedule for the issuance of a safety evaluation report and for the issuance of either an environmental impact appraisal or draft and final environmental statement and (2) the' discovery schedule agreed upon by the parties and adopted by the Board, set July 25, 1983, as the date for the parties to file a status report on the proceeding.

For the reasons enumerated below, Applicant requests that the date for filing a status report be extended to August 15, 1983.

1.

The Staff has decided to prepare an environmental statement but has not yet issued either a draft environmental statement or a safety evaluation re-port.

Thus the proceeding schedule can no longer allow for an evidentiary hearing to commence in September, 1983, as contemplated in the Board's Memorandum and Order.

2.

Applicant has objected to certain of the Hartsville Group first set of interrogatories and the Hartsville Group has filed with the Board a motion to compel answers.

Applicant's counsel has made arrangements to discuss with the representative of the Hartsville Group Applicant's objections and Hartsville Group's motion to compel in the hope of eliminating or narrowing some of the differences between the two parties.

Since the status report re-quested by the Board is to include a report on discovery, the status report should await the outcome of these discussions.

Counsel for the NRC Staff and the representative of the.Hartsville Group have advised Applicant's counsel that they have no objection to this request.

Respectfully submitted, l
