NIAGARA MOHAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION UNIT #1 NARRATIVE OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE March 1983 The Station operated during the month of March 1983 with a monthly avail-ability factor of 0.0% and a net design electrical capacity factor of 0. 0 *.. The Station was shutdown March 19, 1982, for a scheduled maintenance outage. The Station remains shut down due to Reactor Recirculation system piping cracks found during Vessel Hydro on March 23, 1982.

Recire Pump - 3/19/83 WR #18259 - Replaced check valve centerpiece on cleanup valve 33 3/21/83 WR #19602 - Fabricated and installed new restraint for inadequate core cooling system (MK-36W-2A).

t MODIFICATIONS COMPLETED DURING MARCil 1983 Mod. #N1-80-04 Major Order #3070

Title:

Diesel Generator 6 Supply Breaker Control Switch Annunciation This modification involves the addition of annunciation circuits to indicate to main Control Room Operators when the Diesel Generator isolation switch is put in the local start position and when normal supply breakers for Power Boards 102 and 103 are locked out.

This was done as a result of an NRC request of January 23, 1983.

Instr.ation of the modification involved the application of 10CFR50, Appenuis B.

The Safety Evaluation determined that this modification will not adver sely affect safe plant operation or shutdown as evaluated in the FSAR.

Mod. #N1-82-89 Major Order #2821

Title:

Installation of Debris Screens on Containment Vent and Purge Lines This modification involved the installation of debris screens on the Containment side of the Air and Nitrogen Vent and Purge Isolation Valves.

These screens will prevent the possibility of debris getting into these large lines and inhibit any valve from isolating. This modification was NRC required per letter dated 12/9/81. The installation meets requirements of Appendix B to 10 CFR 50.

The Safety Evaluation determined that this modification will not adversely affect safe plant operation or shutdown as evaluated in the FSAR.

Mod. #N1-32-73 bbjor Order #3027

Title:

Insta11atien of Bus Bracing to 4160V Power Distribution Boards This modification involves upgrading some-vertical lift metal-clad switch gear equipment to improve short circuit capability. This modification was recommended from requalification tests performed by the vendor. This installation meets the requirements of Appendix B to 10CFR50. The Safety Evaluation determined that affects important to safety previously evaluated in the Final Safety Analysis Report remains the same.
