Sununary of Operating Experience 1

i SEPTEMBER 1985 t.

Unit No. 2 operated at a reduced capacity for most of the month of September.

The unit experienced three reactor trips and one planned shutdown during the month.

These are detailed in the Unit Shutdowns and i

Power Reductions section of this report.

The majority of the deratings for the month were attributed to condenser f

tube leaks and efforts associated with cleaning and inspection of the condenser tubes.

p On September 20, the main generating unit tripped, which caused a subsequent reactor trip.

The cause of the main generator trip was a 1

i short between the B and C phases of

  1. 21 main transformer.

An investigation of the event is underway.

i I

On September 27, the Unit was brought to hot shutdown conditon in I

accordance with the Technical Specifications due to the proximity of

-hurricane Gloria, and a Notification of Unusual Event (NUE) was f

declared. The Unit suffered no damage as a result of the hurricane.
