CP-85-50 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On December 6,1985, we verbally notified your Mr. H. S. Phillips of a deficiency involving the use of improper welding processes in the manufacturing of cable tray tee fittings which could affect the equipment qualification. _This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). Our latest report, logged TXX-6050, was submitted on October 21, 1986.

The test program outlined in our last interim report was anticipated to be completed in November, 1986. However, this scheduled date has since been postponed. We are presently scheduled to be finished by March 15, 1987. Our c #J assessment of this deficiency on the safety of plant operations in the event

the condition had remained undetected is pending evaluation of these test 7

results.

We anticipate submitting our next report on this issue no later than April 28, 1987.
