SUBJECT:
NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-424/98-03 AND
50-425/98-03 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. McCoy:
On April 18, 1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Vogtle Units _1 and
2 reactor facilities.
The enclosed report presents the results of that
inspection.
During the 6-week period your conduct of activities at the Vogtle facility
was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations, sound engineering
and maintenance practices, and appropriate radiological work controls.
Based on the results of this inspection. certain of your activities a)peared
to be in violation of NRC requirements, as specified in the enclosed lotice of
Violation (Notice).
In addition, the enclosed Inspection Report identifies
,
activities that violated NRC requirements that will not be subject to
'
enforcement action because the licensee's efforts in identifying and/or
l
correcting the violations meet the criteria specified in Section VII.B of the
'
These violations are cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice), and
i
the circumstances surrounding the violation are described in detail in the
i
enclosed report.
Please note that you are required to respond to this letter
and should follow the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice when
preparing your response.
The NRC will use your response, in part, to
i
determine whether further enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance
{
with regulatory requirements.
