SUMMARY

- SITE RELOCATION PSAR AMENDMENT STAFF QUESTIONS AND APPLICANT RESPONSES (March 17,1982)

On March 17, 1982, a meeting between representatives of the Skagit/Hanford Nuclear Project (S/HNP) construction permit applicant and the NRC staff was held in the Phillips building in Bethesda, !!aryland. The meeting was held to discuss the neology, foundation soils, and structural engineering questions and responses.

The staff's safety review questions under discussion had.been previously transmit-ted to the applicant by two letters f rom Ilr. R. Tedesco and one letter from Ms. E.

Adensan to Mr. F. Spangenberg dated February 12, 1982, February 25, 1982, and

!! arch 11,1982, respectively. The applicant transnitted their formal response to ,

the staff safety questions by a letter to the Director of NRR dated March 4,1982.

The applicant provided draft responses to the foundation soils questions, series 241, at this aceting. The March 4,1982, letter addressed, among other things, the geology and the structural enginearing questions under discussion. The final response to foundation soils questions will be forthcoming, according to the applicant.

The applicant's response to geology questions was discussed at length, and the applicant will provide revisions to responses to question 231.1 incorporating additional ddtd. The applicant agreed to reassess the possibility of reproces-sing 1979 and 1980 site seisnic reflection data, and will advise the staff of their assessment on or about March 24, 1982. The applicant also agreed to provide to the staff and the USGS additional geophysical data. The data will be refraction profiles on lines 8, 4A, 4B. & 4C of Figure 2 K-6 of the S/HNP PSAR and additional geophysical data northwest of line 3 relative to the Southeast Anticline.

The discussions on responses to structural engineering question series 220, led to proposals from the applicant for a revision to responses to uestions 220.01, 220.04, 220.05, 220.06, 220.11, 220.12, and 220.15. The applicant's formal transnittal of the revision to the questions will be forthcoming.

Cu The discussions on the foundations soils engineering questions and responses led to a proposal by the applicant to provide several alternatives asked for in question 241.1. The alternatives will be provided to the NRC staff for evaluation'within two to three weeks. Further information on this portion of the meeting _is in the addendum attached.
