DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 DG SECONDARY METER AND RELAY CT CIRCUIT CABLE LEADS SDAR: CP-87-84 (INTERIM REPORT)

Gentlemen:

1 On September 3, 1987, we verbally notified your Mr. H. S. Phillips.of a  !

deficiency involving long electric cable leads in the secondary meter and l relay Current Transformer (CT) circuits for the Emergency Diesel Generator l (DG) which could result in inoperability of the protective relays in the ci rcui t . This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

ANSI Standard C57.13 requires a percent ratio error not exceeding 10% 'in CT j secondary circuits. Duringthepreparationofcalculation16345-EE(B)-023- l 13G-0, the error for these circuits was found to be 28.57%.

We are continuing our evaluation of the impact of this' issue u)on the-safety l of plant operations. Our next report on this issue will be suamitted not later than December 18, 1987.
