Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Vogtle Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Tom Morrissey as the agencys new senior resident inspector at the Vogtle nuclear power plant in Waynesboro, Georgia. Morrissey joins NRC Resident Inspector Chris Safouri at the site.

Morrissey joined the NRC in 1998 as a project engineer in the Division of Reactor Projects in the Region II office. He has served in a variety of roles in his over twenty years with the NRC, including as the senior resident inspector at Crystal River and St. Lucie nuclear power plants in Florida. Most recently, he was a senior construction inspector at Vogtle units 3 and 4.

Tom is uniquely qualified to lead our inspectors at Vogtle. His more than 20 years of experience as an NRC inspector, coupled with his recent time as a senior construction inspector at the plant, make him the perfect fit at Vogtle, said NRC Region II Administrator Laura Dudes. He is knowledgeable with all the plant designs at the site, and his leadership will be instrumental for our resident inspector office as unit 3 nears completion.

Before joining the NRC, Morrissey worked as an assistant chief test engineer at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia. He earned bachelors degrees in chemical and electrical engineering at the University of Florida.

The NRC assigns at least two resident inspectors to each operating U.S. commercial nuclear power plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring plant operations, major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
