SUBJECT:

STAFF REQUIREMENTS - MEETING WITH ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS On June 3, 2022, the Commission met with the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) to discuss issues recently reviewed by the Committee. Members of the ACRS presented updates on the following matters: 1) the NRCs safety research program; 2) the 10 C.F.R. Parts 50 and 52 alignment and lessons learned rulemaking; 3) rulemaking activities to support small modular reactors and other new technologies; 4) preliminary rule language for 10 C.F.R. Part 53 associated with operator licensing requirements; and 5) non-light water reactor source term.

The Commission approves the ACRS recommendation in the letter report from Chairman Rempe to NRC Chairman Hanson, dated December 13, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML21327A072), to increase the interval between the formal letter reports on the safety research program review from two years to three years.

The meeting, which was held in the Commissioners Conference Room, One White Flint North, Rockville, Maryland, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, was open to members of the public attending in person and via webcast.

No requirements were identified for staff action.
