CERTIFICATE OF APPROVAL NO. D/4305/AF-96, REVISION 10, FOR THE MODEL NO. BU-D PACKAGE - REVALIDATION RECOMMENDATION
Dear Richard Boyle:
This is in response to your letter dated December 1, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML21336A513), requesting the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) assistance in evaluating the Model No. BU-D package as authorized by the German Certificate of Package Approval No. D/4305/AF-96, Revision No. 10 and make a recommendation concerning the revalidation of the package for import and export use. Specifically, your letter requested NRC review of the uranium oxide powder contents with up to 10 weight percent uranium-235.
Based upon the NRC review of the statements and representations contained in the Orano Report No. 0007-BBR-2021-001, Container BU-D: Validation of Criticality Calculations and Results for Reduced Fissile Contents, and for the reasons stated in the enclosed safety evaluation report, the NRC recommends revalidation of German Certificate of Package Approval No. D/4305/AF-96, Revision 10 for the BU-D package with no additional conditions.
