TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENT -
On March 18, Region I responded to several news media inquiries from the West Coast when a radio broadcast by Jack Anderson indicated that a truck carrying spent resins from a nuclear plant was involved in a serious transportation accident. The accident reportedly occurred l' on March 15, 1976, on the Beacon Bridge which crosses the Hudson River in New York State. The broade,ast vent on to soy that a dire holocaust was barely averted and had the material fallen into the Hudson River, New York City's water supply would have been contaminated.

3 any threat to public health and safety. Region I also determined that New York City would only use the Hudcon River for drinking water in case of an emergency.
Region I relayed all pertinent facts to West Coast News Stations and to Mr. Anderson's office.
l Media interest is expected because of the national radio broadcast.
The State of New York has been and is being kept informed. A press release is not planned, however, we are responding to all inquirics.
