TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENT On March 18, Region I responded to several news media inquiries from the West Coast when a radio broadcast by Jack Anderson indicated that a truck carrying spent resins from a nuclear plant was involved in a serious transportation accident. The accident reportedly occurred l
on March 15, 1976, on the Beacon Bridge which crosses the Hudson River in New York State. The broade,ast vent on to soy that a dire holocaust was barely averted and had the material fallen into the Hudson River, New York City's water supply would have been contaminated.

a minor traffic accident occurred with a private vehicle (approximately
$150 damage to car - none to truck). The total activity being trans-h j
ported was 300 mC1, the shipment was undamaged and at no time was there g.
any threat to public health and safety.
Region I also determined that 3
New York City would only use the Hudcon River for drinking water in case of an emergency.
Region I relayed all pertinent facts to West Coast News Stations and to Mr. Anderson's office.
l Media interest is expected because of the national radio broadcast.
The State of New York has been and is being kept informed. A press l
release is not planned, however, we are responding to all inquirics.
