OVEREXPOSURE Hartford Hospital reported to Region I on Wednesday, April 14, 1976'at 10:00 a.m. that a film badge worn by a nucicar medicine technician during the month of March was exposed to 5.52 Rems. In addition, this individual's TLD finger dosimeter was exposed to 9.37 Rems for the same -

period.

Licensee initial information indicated that the individual works with diagnostic quantities of medical isotopes and that during this film l badge period he had handled only one therapeutic quantity of iodine-i 131 (100 mil 11 curies). Even though it does not appear that an ex-posure of this magnitude could be received at their nucicar medicine facility, the licensee is treating it as an overexposure until their investigation reveals the circumstances causing the high reading. A special inspection is scheduled for April 19-20, 1976.

. I Media interest is not expected. The State of Connecticut has been and is being kept informed. A press release is not planned.

Region I, NRC, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania received notification of this g occurrence by telephone call from the licensee on April 14, 1976 at 10:00 a.m.
