Initiator's Section Time Restraints 1system ID I Precise Location ID Building/Room IOther September 15, 2016 N/A N/A N/A N/A Component/Part Name or Description PORFLOW Modeling to Support an Evaluation for Alternate Future SDU Siting, Including SDU 6 As-Built Conditions, and to Envelope Potential for Construction Imperfections During Construction of Future SDUs Description (What, Why, Where, When, Who, How Much?)
SRR is requesting that SRNL perform PORFLOW simulations to support an evaluation of a proposed alternate construction site for Saltstone Disposal Unit (SDU) 7. Additionally, SRR is requesting PORFLOW simulations to assess the as-built condition of SDU 6 and provide a performance envelope for potential imperfections during the construction of Future SDUs.
Modeling shall be implemented as modifications of the Evaluation Case from the FY2014 SDF SA (documented in SRNL-STl-2014-
-00083) and shall undergo design checking (equivalent to SRNL-L3200-2014-00005). The modeling cases shall be as follows:
- Case_001: Revised SDU Locations. Same as the FY2014 SDF SA Evaluation Case except the location of future SDUs will be revised such that the center point of SDU 7 is at N77230.51, E66390.28 (see attached, pg 3) and the elevation of the bottom of SDU 7 shall be 265 ft above mean sea level. The center points for SDUs 8 and 9 are consistent with C-CX-Z-00003 (see attached, pg 4). For initial inventory use the following radionuclides: Cs-135, 1-129, K-40, Pu-238, Tc-99, Th-230, and U-234. Due June 23, 2016.
- Case_002: SDU Construction Envelope. Same as Case_001 except the linear length of the roof and floor joints (for SDUs 7 through
- 12) shall be increased from 1,600 ft to at least 2,600 ft. Prior to starting Case_002, SRR requests a teleconference/meeting with PORFLOW modelers, WDA staff and Design Authority staff to discuss approach. Due July 18, 2016.
- Case_003: As-Built SDU 6 Conditions. Same as Case_002 except the linear length of the roof and floor joints (for SDU 6) shall be set to reflect observed field conditions for SDU 6 (either 11,600 linear ft of roof and floor joints or a hydraulic conductivity that would be equivalent to 2 gal/min under 41 ft of hydraulic head). Due August 15, 2016.
Suggested Resolution (Optional)
- 1) Delivery or transmittal of 1-meter and 100-meter Sector concentration data (in pCi/mL) for each modeled radionuclide, and from each modeling case described above. For Case_001 and Case_002, the results should include an "All Sources" run and an "SDU 7" run. For Case_003, the results should include an "All Sources" run and an "SDU 6" run. Due August 15, 2016.
- 2) Delivery or transmittal of revised flow data formatted for use as inputs for GoldSim modeling (i.e., flow abstractions) from modeling Case_003. Due August 15, 2016.
- 3) Delivery of draft PORFLOW documentation. Due August 29, 2016.
- 4) SRR approval of documentation of modeling cases and associated design checking. To be provided upon acceptance of Items 1, 2, and 3, no later than September 15, 2016.
- 5) Page 2 of this form, completed by SRNL, per E7 Manual, Procedure 3.12. Due September 15, 2016.
Note: Written approval is required from SRR for any data associated with this TAR prior to its use by SRNL in papers, presentations, or posters.
