Stf4 MARY OF NEETING CONCERNING MODEL tiO. t:H-1A PACKAGE DESIGN Atendees NRC DOE Richard H. Odegaarden Charles Mauck Henry W. Lee Introduction On November 26, 1985, Department of Energy (DOE) net with the NRC staff to discuss two sumaries of structural evaluations of the !!odel No. f11-1A cask.
Discussion DOE showed the NRC staff sumaries of structural evaluations of the Ptodel No. MH-1 A cask perforned by SAflDIA Laboratories and Westinghouse-Hanford. Both evaluations appeared to confirm the NRC staff position that the package seal would be lost following the accident condition of transport tests.
DOE plans to pursue the analysis with Westinghouse-Hanford. The contents of the fuel material will be taken into account including a limited amount of crude on the outside of the fuel plates and rods. The ftRC staff expects a reasonable amount of success in DOE obtaining a NRC certificate for the cask.
