03/04/02 F 68.32 A I STEAM GENERATOR REGULATING VALVE FAILED CLOSED Summary:

McGuire unit 1 began the month of March operating at approximately 100% full power. On 03/04/02 at 0842 the unit was mannually tripped due to the steam generator regulating valve failing closed. The unit was placed on-line 03/07/02 at 0501. The unit held at 90% power on 03/08/02 at 0115 to 03/08/02 at 0200 due to nuclear instrumentation calibration. The unit returned to 100% full power on 03/08/02 at 1900 and operated at or near 100% full power the remainder of the month.

McGuire unit 2 began the month in end-of-cycle 14 refueling outage. The end-of-cycle 14 refueling outage spanned 32.28 days. The outage was delayed approximately 5.28 days due to reactor vessel control rod drive tube leak. The unit was placed on-line 03/27/02 at 0539 holding at approximately 14% power to perform the turbine overspeed trip test. The unit was taken off-line 03/27/02 at 0915 for the turbine overspeed trip test. The unit was placed on-line 03/27/02 at 1002. The unit held at 30% power from 03/27/02 at 1434 to 2349 due to power escalation testing. The unit held at 35% power from 03/28/02 at 0021 to 0124 due to secondary chemistry. The unit decreased power, and held at 30% power from 0153 to 0243 due to secondary 02 concentration above action II level. The unit began increasing power and held at 33% power from 0302 to 0332 due to reaching action level 11 on 02 concentration on secondary side. The unit held at 78% power from 03/29/02 at 2126 to 03/30/02 at 0748 due to power escalation testing. On 03/30/02 at 1830 the unit held at 90% power due to grid low demand until 03/31/02 at 0800. The unit returned to 100% full power on 03/31/02 at 1143 and operated at or near 100% full power the remainder of the month.

McGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION MONTHLY OPERATING STATUS REPORT FEBRUARY 2002

1. Personnel Exposure The total station liquid release for FEBRUARY has been compared with the Technical Specifications maximum annual dose commitment and was less than 10 percent of this limit.
