SUMMARY

REPORT January 1, 2002 TO June 30,2002 SYNOPSIS:

During this reporting period, Nuclear Management Company(NMC)/Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) conducted 222 drug and alcohol tests in accordance with 10 CFR Part 26. There was not a refueling outage during this period. The break down for this period's testing activity is:

Random 162 / 0 Positive Pre-Access 55 / 0 Positive For-Cause 1 / 0 Positive Follow-Up 3 / 0 Positive Other I / 0 Positive Total 222 / 0 Positive The NMC/DAEC follows the guidelines for substances and cut-off levels as provided in 10 CFR Part 26, Appendix A. The random testing rate this period was 24.33% of the average population MANAGEMENT ACTIONS TAKEN:

For the reporting period ending June 30, 2002, there were no workers denied unescorted access after testing positive for drugs or alcohol. During a for cause test one worker did test for a detectable level of alcohol less than .04% BAC. This worker was put into a follow-up testing program. Two other workers have been put into a follow-up testing program due to drunk driving arrest.

EFFECTIVENESS EVALUATION:

NMC/DAEC continues to implement a Fitness for Duty Program that is effective in achieving the objectives of 10 CFR Part 26.
