Items of Interest Week Ending October 5, 2018 Concrete Technology and Codes Training Course On September 26, 2018, contract 31310018C0010 was awarded to PORTLAND CEMENT ASSOCIATION in Skokie, IL. The purpose of this contract is to provide a training course entitled , "Concrete Technology and Codes." The course is intended to improve the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspector's ability to conduct in-depth inspections and design reviews of NRC-licensed facilities to determine whether or not applicable codes and standards are met. The base period of performance of this contract is from October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019, with four 1-year option periods extending to September 30, 2023. The total potential value over the life of the award is $604,996.40.

Maintenance and Development of the VARSKIN Computer Code On September 27, 2018, contract 31310018C0026 was awarded to RENAISSANCE CODE DEVELOPMENT LLC in Corvallis, OR. The purpose of this contract is to maintain, distribute and improve the VARSKIN computer code. This includes VARSKIN maintenance, invoicing, continued software quality assurance, VARSKIN user support, and training under RAMP. The base period of performance of this contract is from September 27, 2018, through September 26, 2021, with two 1-year option periods extending to September 26, 2023. On September 26, 2018, contract 3131001800016 was awarded to COPPER RIVER ENTERPRISE SERVICES LLC in Anchorage, AK. The purpose of this contract is to modernize existing NRC conference rooms which will result in improved audio and video collaboration across the NRC and with external meeting participants. The base period of performance of this contract is from September 30, 2018, through September 29, 2019, with four 1-year option periods extending to September 30, 2023. The total potential value over the life of the award is

Historical Classified Document Reviews for Declassification On September 28, 2018, contract 31310018C0035 was awarded to TCN-GET LLC in Rock Hill ,

SC. The purpose of this contract is to provide technical assistance services from the contractor to conduct reviews of historical classified documents eligible for automatic declassification in order to assess what needs to remain classified and what can be declassified and released to the public while still protecting the national security interests of the United States Government.

The base period of performance of this contract is from September 28, 2018, through September 27, 2019, with two 1-year option periods extending to September 27, 2021 . The total potential value over the life of the award is $997,016.20.

Transit Subsidies for Metro On September 26, 2018, contract 31310018C0032 was awarded to WMATA in Washington, DC. Microsoft Consulting Services On September 26, 2018, contract 31310018C0033 was awarded to MICROSOFT CORPORATION in Redmond, WA. The purpose of this contract is to provide a single point of accountability and coordination for NRC in the delivery of Microsoft Consulting Services from Microsoft corporate support. The base period of performance of this contract is from October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019, with two 1-year option periods extending to September 30, 2021. The total potential value over the life of the award is $1,415,345.00.

Risk-informed reviews of instrumentation and control systems/components On September 26, 2018, contract 31310018C0034 was awarded to INNOVATIVE ENGINEERING AND SAFETY SOLUTIONS LLC in Germantown, MD. The purpose of this contract is to provide support in developing the technical basis for further risk-informing the regulatory framework for l&C systems or components . The base period of performance of this contract is from September 28, 2018, through September 27, 2022. The total value over the life of the award is $836,146.00.

Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR}

Items of Interest Week Ending October 5, 2018 Staff Issues Seabrook Unit 1 License Renewal Safety Evaluation Report On September 28, 2018, the staff issued its safety evaluation report (SER) for the Seabrook Unit 1 License Renewal application (LRA). The application for license renewal for Seabrook Unit 1 was initially submitted on June 1, 2010. The staff issued an SER with open items on June 8, 2012, which included the alkali-silica reaction on concrete as an open item for aging management of structures. This was the last open item to be resolved for the LRA. The basis for approving the methodology for addressing the alkali-silica reaction on concrete structures was via a license amendment request that staff reviewed in parallel. An October 31, 2018, meeting is scheduled with the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) to address the technical topic of alkali-silica reaction with concrete, and the ACRS will meet on November 15, 2018, to consider the staff evaluation of the LRA.

Accident Tolerant Fuel Project Plan On September 30, 2018, the Accident Tolerant Fuel Steering Committee and Working Group, with participation from the Office of Regulatory Research, the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, and the Office of New Reactors, published the first official version of the "Project Plan to Prepare the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for Efficient and Effective Licensing of Accident Tolerant Fuel." The plan is publicly available in the Agency Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at ML18261A414. The plan received feedback from a wide range of stakeholders. Staff received comments through public meetings, an official public comment period, exchanges with U.S. Department of Energy, and interactions with the international community. The staff responses to the public comments received during the official comment period are publicly available in ADAMS at ML18261A415.
