Items of Interest Week Ending January 4, 2019 Issuance of Digital Instrumentation & Controls Licensing Process Interim Staff Guidance, Revision 2 On December 27, 2018, the staff issued Digital Instrumentation & Controls Licensing Process Interim Staff Guidance Revision 2 (Dl&C-ISG-06, Revision 2). This revision incorporates lessons learned from previous digital l&C license amendment request reviews . It also introduces the Alternate Review Process, which may be used to make an earlier safety determination before the detailed design, implementation, and testing phases of development are complete. This revision is the result of significant coordination with industry stakeholders to streamline the licensing process for digital l&C modifications.
Issuance of Renewed Operating License for Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3 On December 27, 2018, the staff issued the renewed operating license for Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3 (WF3). The new operating license expiration date is December 18, 2044. The staff completed its review as documented in the "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3," issued in August 2018 and revised in October 2018, and Supplement 59 to NUREG-1437, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3," issued in November 2018. The issuance of the WF3 renewed license brings the total number of renewals to 93 reactor units.
