Roger Hannah, 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford, 404-997-4416 NRC Names Resident Inspector at Vogtle Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Chris Safouri as the agencys resident inspector at Southern Nuclear Operating Co.s Vogtle nuclear power plant Units 1 and 2, located near Waynesboro, Ga., about 26 miles southeast of Augusta.

Safouri joins Senior Resident Inspector Matt Endress as the NRC inspectors for the two operating units. The company is also constructing two new units at the site, and the NRC has separate resident inspectors assigned to the construction units.

Safouri joined the NRC in 2015 as a reactor engineer in the Division of Reactor Projects under the Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program in the NRCs Region I Office in King of Prussia, Pa. He served as an acting resident inspector at the Indian Point plant in New York and the Limerick plant in Pennsylvania. Before joining the NRC, he completed a year-long student co-op position at the Farley plant in Alabama, where he worked in engineering and operations.

Safouri holds a bachelors and masters degree in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Each operating U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public. Inspectors can serve for up to seven years at any one site.

The NRC resident inspectors for the two operating Vogtle plant units can be reached at 404-997-5310.
