SUMMARY
OF SEPTEMBER 27, 2017, CLOSED MEETING WITH THE PRESSURIZED WATER REACTOR OWNERS GROUP TO DISCUSS INFORMATION RELATED TO THE TOPICAL REPORT PWROG-17018-P, "SOLID STATE PROTECTION SYSTEM GENERAL WARNING ALARM MODIFICATION" On September 27, 2017, a closed meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and the Pressurized Water Reactor Owners Group (PWROG) representatives. The purpose of this meeting was for the PWROG to discuss information related to the topical report (TR) PWROG-17018-P, "Solid State Protection System General Warning Alarm Modification."
The NRC staff met with the PWROG representatives to discuss the proposed approach to resolve a trip state vulnerability associated with the solid state protection system (SSPS). The purpose of the TR is to provide the technical basis for the modification. The representatives discussed the circuit modifications and updated indications. In addition, the PWROG representatives addressed comments that the NRC staff had from the March 22, 2016, meeting.
During the meeting, the NRC staff had additional comments that included reminders to address operability, inclusion of a reliability discussion, and inclusion of a malfunction discussion.
