Dear Mr. Keppler:

Reference (a) transmitted IE Bulletin 79-03 regarding welding defects in certain longitudinally welded pipe spools.

In accordance with that bulletin, we have reviewed the LaSalle County 51ation piping specifications and supplied material and determined the following:

1. Only seamless ASME SA-312 or electric-fusion welded ASME SA-358 is permitted to be used in safety-related systems.

2 Piping supplied for the NSSS does not contain SA-312 material.

3. Piping supplied for balance of plant aafety-related systems does not contain questionable SA-312 material from Youngstown Welding and Engineering Co.

2- May 10, 1979 Based on this review, we conclude that ASME SA-312 stainless steel pipe welded without filler metal manufactured by Youngstown Welding and Engineering Company is not in use or planned for use in safety-related systems at LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2.
