PRM-50-85 DOCKETED USNRC August 15,2007 (3:45pm) This comment is in support of TMIA's Petition asking the NRC to amend its regulations regarding emergency preparedness, specifically by requiring OFFICE OF SECRETARY that all host school pick-up centers be at a minimum distance of five to RULEMAKINGS AND ten miles beyond the radiation plume exposure boundary zone to ensure that all ADJUDICATIONS STAFF school children are protected in the event of a radiological emergency.

From 2002-2005, 1 was employed as a high school English and Communications teacher by the Elizabethtown Area School District in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

We were in the potential radiation plume of any TMI emergency. As a teacher, I was required to have sufficient iodine pills and water on hand in my classroom at all times. I was also made a member of the district's emergency preparedness team. I was keenly aware of the challenges the district and its families would face if an catastrophic emergency hit TMI. It remains clear to me that we need to do everything we can to protect our children from the effects of a radiological incident at a nuclear plant like TMI. School districts rely on you in developing their plans; I hope your regulations are based on sound science and a clear understanding of the facts. Thank you, Michael J. Fedor 228 Center Street Duncannon.
