Nuclear Regulatory Commission webinar on the WY Agreement State Program Date: Wednesday, April 04, 2018 3:34:01 PM Good afternoon Ms. Chapoose:

Thank you for your email and interest in a webinar that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is sponsoring to discuss the status of the State of Wyoming's application to join the NRC's Agreement State Program.

I shared your questions and concerns regarding the WY application and the review process with the staff and management for the Agreement State Program. The NRC's Agreement State Program allows the NRC to relinquish and a State to assume regulatory authority for certain types of nuclear material.

The State of Wyoming has applied to assume regulatory authority for uranium recovery activities within the State.

The webinar, "Update on the State of Wyoming Becoming an Agreement State" is scheduled for Thursday April 26, 2018 at 3:00PM EDT.

You may register to participate at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4057444586817015553 The presenter will address issues identified in recent phone calls with some Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, such as:

~ Is there Tribal involvement in the State of Wyoming's proposed regulations?

~ Would there be Federal involvement in projects on Federal or Tribal lands?

~ What will NRC's role be in the future in ensuring that the State of Wyoming maintains the same safety standards for uranium recovery projects?

Additional topics will include 1) an update on Wyoming's progress in the Agreement application process over the last year; 2) the status and actions taken on the Programmatic Agreements and Memorandum of Agreements associated with some existing uranium recovery licenses ; and 3) the publication of the draft NRC staff assessment of the Wyoming agreement application for public comment.

The webinar will conclude with a question and answer session.

Information on the Agreement State Program and Wyoming's application can be found at https://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/state-tribal/agreement-states/wyoming.html If you have further questions about the program or Wyoming's application, please contact Duncan White, Senior Health Physicist at Duncan.white@nrc.gov or 301 415-2598.

If you have questions about the registration process for the webinar, please contact Jeffery Lynch at Jeffery.lynch@nrc.gov or 301 415-5041.

Please contact me, if you have other questions or concerns. We hope that you will participate.

If you are unable to attend, we plan to record the webinar and post it on the website noted above.
