Subject:

I&E Bulletin No. 81-03 Flow Blockage of Cooling Water to Safety System Components by Corbicula sp and Mytilas sp.

File: 81-055-026

Dear Mr. Engelken:

A review of operating power plants, as well as the Palo Verde design, indicates that neither Corbicula sp or Mytilus sp are or will be present in the Palo Verde environment. Four of our other steam stations were checked and none reported the presence of either species. Also, Palo Verde will be utilizing treated sewage effluent as the source of cooling water removing the possibility of future infestations.

Very truly yours g CC C C c
