No: 24-034 May 6, 2024 CONTACT: Scott Burnell, 301-415-8200 NRC Makes Available Dresden Nuclear Power Stations Subsequent License Renewal Application

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has received a subsequent license renewal application from Constellation Energy Generation LLC, which requests an additional 20 years for the already-renewed operating licenses for both reactors at the Dresden Nuclear Power Station in Morris, Illinois. The application is now available for public inspection on the NRC website.

Constellation Energy Generation filed the application on April 17, seeking to renew the licenses from 60 to 80 years. Dresdens two boiling-water reactors are approximately 23 miles southwest of Joliet, Illinois. Dresden Unit 2 is currently licensed to operate through Dec. 22, 2029, and Unit 3 through Jan. 12, 2031.

The NRC staff is reviewing the application to determine if it has sufficient information to complete the agencys extensive safety and environmental reviews. If the application is determined to be complete, the staff will docket it and publish a notice of opportunity to request an adjudicatory hearing before the NRCs Atomic Safety and Licensing Board.

Information about the license renewal process is available on the NRC website. Copies of the Dresden subsequent license renewal application will be available at the Morris Area Public Library, 604 Liberty Street in Morris; and the Coal City Public Library District, 85 North Garfield Street in Coal City, Illinois.
