March 1, 2006 Operational Status Indian Point Unit 2 is currently shutdown. Earlier this afternoon at approximate 2:30 p.m. control room operators manually shutdown the reactor after a group of control rods automatically inserted into the reactor core. Power was lost to the control rod mechanisms. There were no injuries or release of radiation due to this event.

Operations personnel are investigating the cause of the loss of power to the control rod group.

Indian Point Unit 3 is operating at 100% reactor power and has been on-line for 148 days.

Status Report Available on JIC Website The Indian Point status report is now available on the new Joint Information Center web site. The web site is part of the virtual news room concept that is being developed for public emergency information. Starting next week, the status report will be sent to the distribution list via the web site. The web site will also include the latest radiological release information for Indian Point.
